Laughing With The Raindrops is:
Laughing With The Raindrops is a project involving high-calibre musicians so that Virginie's well-crafted songs ('love letters to life') sound well-produced and soulful. Alexander Keen and Gabriel Keen have contributed superb horn arrangements and have been involved in the production of the new album, as well as British Jazz star Derek Nash who is also the studio engineer and the lead saxophone player/soloist on the album.
In the 1990s, Alexander Keen, Gabriel Keen and Virginie Lacour-Puiboube led two projects together. Piano di Lavoro was a 14-piece experimental Jazz band, featuring a brass and a woodwind section. Piano di Lavoro concentrated on playing original material, a daring blend of songs and instrumentals including some free improvisation. The band played London Jazz venues such as The Bull's Head in Barnes, the Bass Clef in Hoxton, The Prince of Orange, the Barbican Foyer and so on.
In the mid to late 1990s, the trio led Baton Rouge, a 7-piece band concentrating on Virginie's songs.
Laughing With The Raindrops is the new 2.0 version of Virginie's music and will no doubt seduce those with a penchant for meandering melodies, expressive vocals, rich arrangements, cool laid-back funky grooves, super tight horn sections, beautiful piano, Fender Rhodes, guitar and saxophone solos.
