CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHAMPION SISTERS

Seems the spirit of the holidays comes in threes. Think Wise Men and Champion Sisters and my point is made. By the way, it’s a good thing the Wise Men didn’t run into these sisters on the way to Bethlehem, becoming all star-crossed and confused, spilling frankincense, losing their myrrh.

In their own way, what Brenda, Sandra, and Molly bring to the Christmas season are essential gifts: artful surprise, brave tenderness, and a shimmering joy. These are simply as necessary as cranberry sauce, of course, and, of the many delights of this recording, they ring through in three-part harmony.

Together with world-class arranger, Paul English, the Champion Sisters have recast the holiday canon and made it new. Yet, they have also found the same spirit that has animated Christmas through generations of snowy windowpanes, homecoming hugs, and carolers at the door.

Here, then, are three lovely voices bearing gifts; three responses to the story of Love’s arrival in this world; and three invitations to find our way into the heart of the matter. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas,

Think Andrews Sisters and The Dixie Chicks.

Then forget it. These girls are better.

The Champion Sisters entertain audiences with their eclectic style and harmonious sounds. Their captivating, close-knit harmonies make the trio a stage favorite.

With alluring finesse, the three sisters, Molly and identical twins Brenda and Sandra, showcase their talents through a wide range of music: from swing to jazz, rhythm and blues to folk, big band to Contemporary Christian and country-western.

Among their recent notable engagements, the sisters were headlined at the Houston Grand Opera’s Cinderella Ball. During 2007 the sisters were delighted to serenade former President George Bush, Sr., during a ceremony honoring him with the American Spirit Award from the National World War II Museum of New Orleans. The sisters have previously opened for the Houston Symphony Orchestra’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration The Star Spangled Salute at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas. In addition, they have also performed, on numerous occasions, the National Anthem and God Bless America at various sports functions which include the Houston Astros--both at the Astrodome and Minute Maid Park; the Houston Texans at the Reliant Stadium; the Houston Dynamo; the Houston Comets at the Toyota Center and the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center. The Komen Houston – Race for the Cure is an organization near and dear to the sisters’ hearts and they have performed the National Anthem several years consecutively.

The trio continues the fine singing tradition of their late father, George Champion, a talented musician who performed alongside world famous country and western artists, and also was a longstanding guest on Utah Carl’s Gulf Coast Jamboree television show in Houston, Texas.

Born in Texas, the sisters began showing their love for music at the tender ages of four and five. It was during their early childhood and teen years that the trio developed their three-part harmony while singing along with their favorite artists of the time, which included the Bee Gees, Beach Boys, Eagles, and the Contemporary Christian artists The Imperials, to name a few.

Brenda, Sandra and Molly began their careers singing gospel music at church and at religious and secular functions. The sisters have also toured the United States performing alongside other Christian artists. Their first single recording, Song For Broken Hearts hit the top 10 list of Contemporary Christian radio station KSBJ and remained there for more than three months.

After a hiatus from the industry, the Champion Sisters resumed their singing career in 2000 under the direction of renowned Texas pianist, composer and producer, as well as longtime family friend, Paul English. Their debut album, In The Mood, released in 2005, received rave reviews at the CD Celebration in April 2004. The CD Celebration was a welcomed festivity for those who have waited patiently for their first official recording.

Late 2006 the sisters released a CD single featuring two songs. Both songs are slated to be included on their full Christmas CD scheduled for completion and release late Summer 2007.

Typical singing order for the Champion Sisters is Brenda on the hard-to-hit high notes, Molly singing the hard-to-hit low notes, and Sandra on the middle harmony, which completes the sound. However, not only do the sisters look alike, they sound alike. Just when you think you know who is singing each part, they may switch on you!
